VTB Capital Forum "RUSSIA CALLING!" brought together participants and viewers from 103 countries
The 12th VTB Capital Investment Forum "RUSSIA CALLING!", which was for the first time held online, has finished. The Forum’s events were broadcast at leading Russian and international media platforms and were available to viewers across the globe.
The first day of the Forum, themed “Global Challenges, Local Remedies”, was dedicated to discussions of the current status of global and Russian economy in light of the pandemic and instruments for adaptation and transformation of businesses and markets under the crisis.
At the macroeconomic plenary session Russian President Vladimir Putin held a traditional conversation with foreign businessmen and investors. Over two hours the President answered questions of 18 representatives of foreign business community on challenges, faced by the world during the pandemic, on decisions, made by Russia to cushion the effects of the crisis on the economy and the social sphere, on the investment potential of the Russian market.
On the second day, “Post Pandemic Investment Horizons” session of VTB Capital Investments featured Mark Mobius, founder of Mobius Capital Partners LLP, Jim Rogers, international investor and author other leading speakers, who discussed capital market strategies and smart investing in the next year. The participants talked about ruble exchange rate, debated relevance of negative interest rates for Russia and once again underlined their commitment to portfolio diversification.
Participants of “The Pandemic and Technologies for a Safe Future” session, including Ancha Baranova, Professor, School of Systems Biology, George Mason University (Virginia, USA), Mikhail Oseevskiy, President and Management Board Chairman, Rostelecom, Tigran Khudaverdyan, Executive Director, Yandex Group, and experts reviewed efficient practices of digital technology implementation in infrastructure of Moscow and regions, and also discussed the situation in Russian healthcare, battling the virus at the frontlines.
The VTB Capital Investment Forum "RUSSIA CALLING!" has been held annually since 2009. Every year the event attracts an authoritative audience, including representatives of government agencies, heads of Russian and international companies and investors. The agenda of the forum covers the most pressing issues of the global economy, finance and business sectors. The forum's influence and credibility among the business community has been repeatedly recognized by a number of international awards, including the IPRA Golden World Awards, Extel Survey, Communicate Magazine’s Corporate and Financial Awards.
In the online format, the forum will retain its traditional format. Three sessions will be held, the topics of which will be macroeconomics and the impact of the pandemic on global markets, monetary policy of central banks, labor productivity and employment, financial instruments in a changed reality, transformation and adaptation of business processes in new conditions and technologies for a secure future.
For the first time, the Forum will be broadcast to a wide audience, any viewer from anywhere in the world with access to the internet will be able to join the broadcast and hear the speakers’ speeches. Experts will take part in discussions from studios around the world, including Europe, USA, Asia and the Middle East.

He has been frequently featured in Time, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Barron’s, Forbes, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, The Business Times, The Straits Times and many media outlets worldwide. He has also appeared as a regular commentator and columnist in various media and has been a professor at Columbia University.
After attending Yale and Oxford University, Rogers co-founded the Quantum Fund, a global-investment partnership. During the next 10 years, the portfolio gained 4200%, while the S&P rose less than 50%. Rogers then decided to retire – at age 37. Continuing to manage his own portfolio, Rogers kept busy serving as a full professor of finance at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and, in 1989 and 1990, as the moderator of WCBS's 'The Dreyfus Roundtable' and FNN's 'The Profit Motive with Jim Rogers'.
In 1990-1992, Rogers fulfilled his lifelong dream: motorcycling 100,000 miles across six continents, a feat that landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records. As a private investor, he constantly analyzed the countries through which he traveled for investment ideas. He chronicled his one-of-a-kind journey in Investment Biker: On the Road with Jim Rogers. Jim also embarked on a Millennium Adventure in 1999. He traveled for 3 years on his round-the-world, Guinness World Record journey. It was his 3rd Guinness Record. Passing through 116 countries, he covered more than 245,000 kilometers, which he recounted in his book Adventure Capitalist: The Ultimate Road Trip. His book, Hot Commodities: How Anyone Can Invest Profitably In The World's Best Market, was published in 2004. Another of his books A Bull in China describes his experiences in China as well as the changes and opportunities there. His recent book A Gift to My Children is a heartfelt, indispensable guide for his daughters (as well as for all adults and children) to find success and happiness. His latest memoir Street Smarts: Adventures on the Road and in the Markets was published in February 2013. Recently in January 2018, his book A Gift to My Children, 2nd edition which was published in Chinese, was launched in China. And in October 2018, another of his book The Next Big Wave, published in Complex Chinese, was launched in Taiwan. Rogers had two number one bestsellers in Japan namely The Future of Japan and A Warning to Japan that were published in January and July 2019 respectively.

Miroslav Singer ranks amongst the most significant Czech economists. He graduated in Mathematical Methods Applied to Economy at the University of Economics in Prague. In 1995 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. Before his appointment to the Bank Board of the Czech National Bank in 2001 he held senior management positions in the group Expandia (finance and industry) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (advising in restructuring).

Yerlan Syzdykov is the Global Head of Emerging Markets & Co-Head of Emerging Markets Fixed Income at Amundi, based in the London office. In this role, he is responsible for leading a highly skilled investment team working on debt and equity strategies that covers Asia, Latin America, Emerging Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He is also Lead Portfolio Manager on a number of our Emerging Market Debt strategies.
Yerlan has worked on Emerging Markets (EM) throughout his career. He has been involved in managing EM Debt strategies since 2000 when he joined Amundi Asset Management and has played a key role in evolving our investment capability in this area.
He joined Amundi Asset Management (previously Pioneer Investments) in 2000 from Bancroft in Paris where he had been working as an Investment Analyst for Private Equity deals. Before this, he worked with various companies in London and Paris within EM equity research.
Yerlan started his career as an EM Equity Analyst with Renaissance Capital in Moscow upon completion of his MBA in 1997.

His 25 years’ experience covering the political economy of Russia and other FSU countries, including time working in Moscow-based investment banks where he was a top-ranked strategist and political analyst in broker surveys, started with a posting in Moscow as a UK diplomat in the early 1990s. The overall sales of the company in 2019 exceeded $3.4 billion (+85%), and in the first half of 2020 - by $2.5 billion (+97%).
According to analysts of Forbes magazine, Wildberries is worth approximately $1.2 billion. Wildberries takes 1st place in the Forbes ranking “10 Main Sales Runet platforms” for 2019. For the fourth year Wildberries became the largest online store in Russia in terms of online sales, according to the analytical agency Data Insight.
